How we decide who to trust
The rules behind every score on The Fee Gap: where facts come from, how scores are set, how we use AI, and how we fix mistakes.
Sources
- Company terms first. Fees, deposits, age rules and cancellation terms come from the company’s own terms and help pages wherever we can reach them. When we can’t, we use a named, recent third party (a broker’s published terms, consumer journalism) and the page says so.
- Every claim carries its source. Scores, fees and problems each link to where they came from, and every page shows when it was last checked.
- Complaint records come from the Better Business Bureau, Trustpilot, J.D. Power and similar. Some figures are as reported by another site, and we label those “as reported by”.
- Branch ratings come from Google Maps, credited on each airport page. Short review quotes are attributed and kept under 25 words.
- When we can’t find something, we say so. “Not published” is a finding. We never fill a gap with an estimate.
Scores
Each company gets five scores from 1 to 5, each with the reason and sources shown on its page. 3 means average for its category; 5 is rare. The weights, the airport blend and the thresholds are public on How we rank.
Fair language
- We don’t call real companies scams. We say what the records show: how many complaints, about what, and how they tend to end.
- “Skip if you can” means better options exist at the same price. It is not a claim that a company is dishonest.
- Review quotes are examples of a pattern we found in the sources, not a sample. We pick them for what they describe, not how angry they are.
AI and software
We use software, including AI research tools, to gather public information at scale: reading company terms, complaint records and reviews, and drafting the first version of a page with its sources attached.
- AI does not invent facts. Anything that can’t be traced to a source is left out or marked “not found”.
- A person owns the score. The rules and every published score are the editor’s responsibility.
- Quotes are real. Review quotes are copied from real, attributed reviews and never written or paraphrased by AI.
Keeping it current
Every page shows its “last checked” date. Fees and policies change, so we recheck companies on a rolling basis and whenever a reader or a company reports a change. Your rental agreement or booking terms are always what counts.
Independence
- No company can pay to be listed, ranked, or to have a problem removed.
- We don’t use affiliate links or take commission on bookings.
- We don’t accept free rentals, upgrades or trips in exchange for coverage. If a rental was ever comped, the page would say so.
- The site is owned and paid for by Krafties (see ownership and funding).
Company responses
Companies we cover can send corrections with a source, like anyone else. If a company changes a policy (for example drops a fee), send us the new terms and we’ll update the page and its score. We don’t accept payment, advertising or partnerships from companies we rank.
Corrections
Email nur@roasterland.com with the page link and a source for the correct information. We aim to review corrections within two working days. Factual fixes are made directly and the “last checked” date updates. If a correction changes a score or verdict, we say so on the page.
